In recent years, the law on whether landlords need to obtain an electrical installation condition report (EICR) has changed. Where it was only previously recommended that landlords have this test carried out, it is now illegal not to have an Electrical Installation Condition Report done at least every five years.
Should you have tenants or your managing agency request an EICR, as a landlord, you are legally required to provide this within 30 days of the request.
Owing to the recent changes in the law, landlords may not currently have an up to date EICR in place but the government has allowed some time to get the relevant tests carried out. It is now required that by April 2021, all existing tenancies must have an up to date EICR.
